Interview

Folding knives do not like water or the dishwasher.

A Laguiole knife is not washed, it is dried! The natural materials of the handle, such as precious woods or horn, are sensitive to humidity; it is therefore preferable to store your knife in a dry place.

Horn handle

Horns are very sensitive to temperature variations and humidity, so make sure to store your horn knife in a dry place at room temperature.

Brass Miters

If the miters lose some of their shine or become slightly oxidized, you can apply a brass/copper cleaning product (such as Mirror). Then, simply rub vigorously to restore the miters to their original shine.

The mechanism

To maintain the mechanism of your folding knife it is necessary to add a drop of oil from time to time (3 in 1 multifunction oil or vegetable oil).

With the knife in the closed position, apply oil to the joint between the blade and the spring, reopen it so that the oil is applied to the entire mechanism, and finally wipe off the excess. For two- and three-piece knives, you can do the same thing on the corkscrew mechanism and the punch.

The blade

To remove food residue, we recommend wiping the blade with a soft cloth or slightly damp sponge, then immediately wiping it with a dry cloth. To preserve the blade's longevity, you can apply a little oil to create a protective film (food oil).

Always be sure to accompany the blade of your knife when closing it!

Our folding knives have a stop, which prevents the blade from resting inside the spring when the knife is closed. During assembly, the knifemaker seeks balance in the tension of the blade and the spring. When the knife is closed, you can press on the blade, and you will notice a slight elasticity. However, the stop is not used to hold the blade.

It is necessary to accompany the blade when closing the knife to avoid blunting the edge with a sudden closing.

Sharpening the blade

For regular sharpening to preserve the optimal quality of the edge of your blade, we recommend sharpening on a natural stone (moisten the stone for around ten minutes before sharpening), keeping a sharpening angle of 20°.

Make sure to sharpen your knife regularly to maintain its sharpness. However, if the blade edge needs to be checked, we advise you to contact our Forge de Laguiole after-sales service.

Of course, we recommend normal use of our knife, the blade should not be used as a lever or screwdriver, which could cause damage not covered by the warranty.

A lead time of 2 to 3 days is required to ensure supply.
