The Nontron knife takes its name from the village in the Périgord region where it was born, and is believed to be the oldest knife in France, with roots possibly dating back to the Middle Ages. The Coutellerie Nontronnaise, founded in 1928, carries on this regional knife-making tradition, passed down from generation to generation for nearly a century.
Every Nontron knife is the result of a meticulous artisanal process: forging blades in T12 steel, XC75 carbon steel, or carbon Damascus steel; sawing and turning handles from Périgord Vert boxwood or other fine woods; assembling roughly forty steps by hand; and hand-branding the famous "mouches" (fly motifs), the brand's signature decoration. The collection includes traditional folding knives, table and paring knives, as well as more contemporary pieces created in collaboration with renowned designers such as Christian Ghion and Olivier Gagnère.
