Sandvik Stainless Steel The Sandvik stainless steel developed for Opinel is renowned for its sharpness and ease of maintenance. The stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its good hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40%, which allows for a very satisfactory sharpness without being sensitive to corrosion.
Double safety Virobloc system
All Opinel folding knives are equipped with the patented Virobloc system, except for the small Tradition sizes. Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, this stainless steel safety ring allows the blade to be locked in the open position (safety of use). Today, the Virobloc also allows the blade to be locked in the closed position (transport safety).
